Melinda Gates is committed to gender equality

When one of the most powerful women in the world commits to gender equality, WWIRE applauds
Melinda Gate, co-chair of the Bill-and-Melinda-Gates Foundation, has just said it wants to spend $ 1 billion on gender equality over the next 10 years. WWIRE can only welcome such news. Indeed, that a recognized personality like Melinda is committed to gender equality is an extremely strong and symbolic sign for the cause of women, a subject that has mobilized us for many years.

Melinda Gates plans to allocate $ 1 billion over the next decade in hopes of reducing gender inequality, she said in an article in Time.

She announced that she had three priorities for the allocation of funds:
• facilitate the professional advancement of women;
• increase gender diversity in technology, public affairs and the media;
• relaunch reforms in male-dominated organizations.

Melinda Gates wants above all to raise awareness and draw the attention of American women to the gender inequality that is still very present across the United States. We would be tempted to add that unfortunately it is not only the US that is concerned.

“Too many people, women and men have worked very hard to get us this far,” wrote Melinda. “There are many solutions that we have yet to explore. That is why, over the next ten years, I will spend $ 1 billion on expanding women’s influence and power in the United States. ”
This commitment will be used to finance and develop programs for women through the investment and incubation company Pivotal Ventures which she founded in 2015.

Thanks to the #MeToo movement, the United States is currently enjoying a wave of awareness of the conditions of women, which Melinda Gate says makes it the perfect and opportune time to raise donations to eliminate gender inequalities and this through the three priorities that she stated.
Melinda Gates has regularly spoken out against gender inequality. A report published by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation in September said that “inequality between men and women affects half of humanity”.
Inequality between the sexes is one of the causes which have fortunately raised the awareness of a large number of wealthy personalities. 61.7% of billionaires around the world have contributed to donation campaigns in this category, also including programs: crime prevention, poverty reduction and unemployment, according to research firm Wealth-X.

Melinda Gates was voted “the most influential woman in philanthropy” by Forbes in 2018 through her work as co-chair of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. The couple has regularly committed to education reform and public health, we hope they are a model for a lot of influential figures in this world, we really need them.
